So.... I've been bitten by the painting bug again. Not a bad thing I suppose... it means I get my army painted. That gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I got an Apocalypse formation when I went up to GW in Calgary last summer for my Eldar Army, The Wind Rider Formation I think it's called. Basically, it's a bunch of Guardian Jetbikes, an Autarch on a Jetbike, and Two Vyper Jetbikes. I sorta got started on the Vypers last summer, but they've been collecting dust until now. I just got one all painted up and figured I'd toss it up for people to look at!

More of the usual stuff one could expect of me. Primed it Chaos Black, used a fine detail brush to do the Blood Red in the lines. Boltgun Metal and Mythril Silver for shiny highights. Skull White for the Bright Lance and under slung Shuriken Catapults.

The gems are hard to do. Well... hard to do well that is. For the red ones, I started with a base coat of Red Gore. I did two coats of that to make it a nice deep red and ensure I covered them evenly. Afterward, I took Blood Red and did a partial coat, only painting maybe 80% of the gem so that the darker Red gore could show through. I then took Blazing Orange and drybrushed a little bit on the lower 25% to brighten it futher. I added a speck of Skull White to make it look shiny, then put on 'Ardcoat. Shiny gems. The process was the same for the Blue Gems, But I used Regal Blue, Enchanted Blue, and Ice Blue in that order instead.

I'll take this moment to explain that the camera I'm using is my Webcam. It used to be really good, but I guess it's getting old. I can't afford a proper camera, so it'll have to do. My apologies.

I'm proud of the quality of my work. I always paint these things as they go together. In that way, I'm able to have fully painted interiors, and it's easier to do pilots and stuff too. A trick I learned from a friend for painting in the grooves is to glob a paint on you want, then run your finger along the groove, spreading the paint along with it. It's a trick I learned back when I was jut starting out and I still use it today. I'll probably use it for a long time to come too.

Maybe I should work on those War Walkers I got from the Desert Rat sometime soon... maybe after I'm done the other Vyper. Anyways, thats all for tonight.

  1. Sweet man! You working so hard definitely makes me want to. The Windrider Host is pretty cool. Can't wait to see it in an apoc game!

  2. Me too. Desert Rat and I were supposed to have a big game last summer, but we never got around to it. XD

There will be other chances. =)
